Play To Your Strengths and Improve Your Golf Game

Have you ever felt frustrated after a bad round of golf? You’re not alone. Many golfers, including myself, have experienced this. But here’s the good news: you can improve your game by playing to your strengths and adopting a smart course management strategy.

It’s not long, but the design presents a difficulty. Most golfers approach it by trying to hit a perfect tee shot over the trees to reach the green in two. But why do that if it’s not your strength?

Instead of taking unnecessary risks, I took a different approach. I hit my tee shot slightly to the right of the trees, landing safely in the fairway about 220 yards from the green. Now, what should I do? Opt for a high-risk shot with a 3 wood to reach the green? Not anymore. That shot used to increase my chances of a bogey or worse.

Knowing my strengths and confidence with different clubs, I decided to lay up to a comfortable distance using my pitching wedge (PW). With my third shot, I hit the ball onto the green, pin high, about 6 feet from the hole. Although I missed the subsequent putt by an inch and ended up with a bogey, I felt good about my decision-making and the way I played the hole.
