This is why I prefer to call what I do “mental game coaching” or “mental training,” terms that athletes can easily understand. Unfortunately, most athletes only seek out mental game coaching when they face a specific performance barrier or a decrease in performance. As a mental game coach, I often become the last resort after athletes have tried other means to overcome performance slumps. It would be ideal if athletes sought mental game coaching proactively, rather than waiting until something needs to be “fixed” and exhausting all other resources.
