Bossaball: The Exciting New Sport Taking the World by Storm

Bossaball is a thrilling sport that originated in Spain in 2004 and has since gained international acclaim. Countries like Brazil, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Kuwait, Ecuador, and Saudi Arabia boast successful Bossaball teams. While international competitions are limited, teams from renowned countries are on a mission to raise awareness of this exciting sport.

Object of the Game

Similar to volleyball, the objective of Bossaball is to hit a ball over a net to score points. The unique twist is that players can use any part of their body – head, feet, or hands – to get the ball over the net and into their opponent’s section. The game takes place on a massive inflatable court with trampolines on each side, adding an extra element of bounce. The team with the highest score at the end of the game emerges victorious.

Players & Equipment

A Bossaball team typically consists of 3 to 5 players, and there are no gender restrictions – mixed teams are encouraged. One player is designated to the trampoline section of the arena at all times, with players rotating after every point. All you need to enjoy Bossaball is a Bossaball court and, of course, a Bossaball (which is very similar to a volleyball).

The court can vary in size but is usually around 50 yards in length and 30 yards in width. In the middle of the court, there must be a net approximately 3 meters high. On either side of the court, you’ll find the trampoline section, an inflatable scoring section, and an inflatable out-of-bounds area.

Points are earned by successfully hitting the ball over the net into your opponent’s section and preventing them from returning it. Hitting the trampoline section of the court earns you 3 points, while any other inbounds area on the court awards 1 point. If the ball touches the Bossa (the ring around the trampoline), the game continues as normal.

Winning the Game

To win a game of Bossaball, your team needs to reach 25 points first. If the score reaches 24-24, a team must win by two clear points to secure that set. Games are typically played as a best of 3 or best of 5 sets.
