Prurient
is the work of Dominick Fernow. He also runs the Hospital Productions
record label. I have two other Prurient releases in my collection. I bought
them you know. With real money. The releases I have are "Point
and Void" is the... actually I don't know how many releases Prurient
have out there. I searched the web for a bit and found another two. These
were "Black Vase" and "Shipmakers Diary" - of which
of course I know nothing. According to some websites though he doesn't
half put on a live performance. Gives his adoring public value for money.
Which is nice to read. "Point and Void" is 6 untitled tracks
of music to have ulcers to. Roll up, roll up, step this way to have your
eardrums perforated. In case you missed the clues laid out so far Prurient
is an exponent of extreme / power electronics music. Another one. He throws
out all manner of high painful frequencies without a care in the world.
Feedback gone bad. He screams. He hollers. He'll fuck you over for a dollar.
Rhythms that last bit. What does separates this release, from the myriad
of other recordings out there, somewhat is his use of changing the tone
on certain pieces. Instead of going like the clappers at a 100 mph he'll
happily bring the tempo down to an almost minimalist slant. Before letting
rip once more. The addition of conversations used at certain points also
greatly adds to the overall feel, and dare I say ambience, of the music.
As for his version of the Lords Prayer... let's just say you won't hear
this in any church. Not in the real world anyway. What else can I add?
The music is as raw, brutal, passionate, highly textured, highly emotive
and aggressive as you‚ll ever hear. Which is good news all round
for those who can't get enough of that old noise thing. |
