Burdened perhaps with the legacy that Dead Can Dance left as the bar of ethnically influenced neofolk, Love is Colder Than Death, have remarkably survived a long time to match other luminaries such as Estampie, et al. Then to release a live album given DCD's own impressive live shows and excellent live album, "Toward the Within", is a considerable gamble yet Love is Colder Than Death pull it off with honours.

The album was recorded on September 4th 2004 at Völkerschlachtdenkmal, Leipzig, Germany, and while not explicitly stated, the performance was recorded with Stoa. The repertoire of tracks consists of seven from their most recent full-length, Eclipse, and a smattering from albums/EPs Atopos, Spellbound, Mental Traveller, Oxeia and Teignmouth.

The performance is for the most part flawless, the musicianship of the artists of perceptibly high caliber. If you are familiar with Love is Colder Than Death you will find the sinuous orientalism and medieval expositions of this album a great compliment to the bundle of albums they have released in well over a decade. Great care has been paid to the attention of quality of sound on "Inside the Bell", the Live elements of the album show their hands in "cultured" applause at the end of tracks, no whistles or screams from an over-eager crowd ruin the masterfully mixed recording.
