Dear Julius, I’m
your number one fan. I have everything you’ve ever recorded…even
on vinyl…and I don’t own a record player. That’s love.
But don’t worry I’m not totally obsessive. Ha ha. I’m
sitting here writing this wearing my Der Blutharsch t-shirt, drinking
coffee out of my Der Blutharsch cup and flicking my fag ash into my Der
Blutharsch ashtray. I’ve bought everything with the Der Blutharsch
name on it. Pins, banners, badges, watch and clocks…my home is a
temple to Der Blutharsch. But I’m not obsessive. Oh no. Ha ha. I’m
writing to you about your latest release "Live at The Monastery"
which was recorded on 1st May 2005 in front of an invited audience. My
ticket must have been lost in the post. Bloody useless British postal
system. At least I have this as a reminder of what I missed. Firstly may
I congratulate you on the superior sound quality throughout the eleven
tracks. Such a crisp and clear recording that I think I can even smell
you through it. I’ve always loved your more neo-classical / orchestral
pieces but stripped down here to a more acoustic setting really brings
home the quality of your songs …even those sung in German…a
language I don’t understand. Poor dumb me. Of course you never title
your tracks so I spent a lot of time trying to find the tracks on all
your recordings that were being played here. I recognised most of them
but some I couldn’t find but that’s probably just down to
me. Marthynna has a great set of lungs on her. Her singing certainly impresses.
Like Nico but without the heroin habit. When you both sing in harmony
it sure is the sweetest sound…even when you sound angry. Peter Paul
& Mary brought up to date standing in front of the Reichstag. With
Mary wearing fetching lederhosen and deaths head armband. The songs are
all well structured and stirring anthems…which you are so very good
at composing. I wish I had been there to witness this gig myself. Although
only 30+ minutes long every minute would have been slowly savoured. I
would have whooped and screamed at the top of my voice along with every
song. Louder and more appreciative that those lucky enough to be there
anyway. Live albums are just stop gaps though aren’t they? You’re
probably hard at work on your next opus as I write. Can’t wait.
As a historical document of you live though it certainly suffices. Now
I can sense and feel you playing in front of me 24 / 7 in my dingy living
room. What more can a star struck fan ask for. Take care and I’ll
write to you again soon. Don’t forget…I’m your number
one fan. |
