Beast of Prey to come up with the goods. "Achtung! Achtung! Der Kommunismus
Kommt" is the 24th release from this label that excels itself continually.
That is no bullshit my friends. I haven’t yet been able to hammer
any release from this label either sent in for review or bought by myself.
My one and only gripe with the label…and I’m sure they’ll
understand why I’m writing this…is that they never send the
complete package over for review purposes. Instead they send a photocopy
of the cover on a small white envelope which can be disheartening when
you read how the actual release is packaged. Still considering it cost
me nothing I should be grateful that they saw fit to send it in for review
in the first place.
Polish act Brandkommando are new to these old ears. This, I believe, is
their six track debut and like the majority of Beast of Prey releases
is strictly limited…to 111copies…and will probably have sold
out by the time you read this. Shit happens. Should’ve visited their
website before now and grabbed yourself a copy. I would go as far to say
to add their site to your ‘favourites’ menu so you can keep
updated on developments and releases. There’s nothing worse than
missing out on fabulous recordings. Yeah…fabulous sums up "Achtung!
Achtung! Der Kommunismus Kommt". Mind you…fabulous as in relation
to electronic power rhythmic noise. For that is what this release by Brandkommando
specialises in. Solid and harsh with just a little bit of variety thrown
in. Not mind blowing original by any stretch of the imagination though.
Just another entry into this genre as a matter of fact. What "Achtung!
Achtung! Der Kommunismus Kommt" does have going for it is the execution
of the pieces. They’ve obviously done their homework and sussed
out that if you’re going full tilt into the noise spectrum then
best you have ideas aplenty to keep things interesting and fresh sounding.
Nothing is as off putting as music going through the same boring old motions.
Brandkommando don’t fall into that trap. Although the electronics
are suitably harsh and disturbing and the samples are ample they mix it
together very cohesively with some aplomb. All of which went down very
well with this reviewer. After all I have enough of this stuff in my collection
to know if an act has the intense magic that I’m looking for that
will keep me coming back to it in the future.
Brandkommando
ticked all the right boxes in my assessment, so comes to you highly recommended.
Definitely an act worth watching for in the future. Best you mark that
down somewhere and keep it safe.
